What is Research Design?

Research design refers to the methodologies, tools and approaches used to conduct scientific and analytical studies. Different research design methods may fit specific research questions better than others, so it is essential to be well-versed in the various types of research design. The type of research design used can also assist the researcher in compiling the data to share with others, both internal to their organization and external.

What is Data Analysis?

Analyzing data goes beyond looking at the facts and figures. Instead,  those who work in data analysis apply the numbers and statistics they find to significant social issues. As they look for patterns and trends in the data, they can better understand why lingering social effects exist. Their evidence provides backing to justice workers and helps those in positions of power understand the need for change and advocacy.

Data Analysis and Research Design For the Social Good

Research design has far-reaching effects, from psychology and legislature to education. In psychology, research design allows experts to chart important patterns and gain insights into child development. Legislatures utilize the data to advocate for their causes and provide evidence for the necessity of their policies. Education researchers use design to evaluate student and school performance. 

Education is significantly affected by research design and data analysis, as educators turn to statistics and data to see the impact of their curricula and pain points students face. Research and data often drive new curricula and educational policies.
